DocMinder Qualifying Questions for Corporations/Corporate Legal Depts.:

 

Are there events relate to your documents that need follow up in the future?  Are there "due" dates?  Retention dates?  Is delegation and task management a big part of the job?   Do you use your calendar, spread sheets to track these events? 

 

Do you notify others via email about their responsibilities?  Are they inside/outside the organization or both? Are related documents attached?  How is follow-up handled now?  Is escalation ever needed?

 

Can management see who needs to do what in the future, i.e. staff workload and also drill down to the related documents?  How are your documents managed now?

 

Are deadlines managed centrally or individually, and how many people manage deadlines?  What departments?  What are the most critical areas for managing deadlines?  Where is the most risk if dates are missed?

 

Where do you need reports to prove things where handled properly?  How are reports handled now?  Is there a compliance process?  Are there Audits?

 

How do you transfer responsibilities if someone leaves or is out on vacation, etc?

 

How are deadlines and tasks for Mergers & Acquisitions managed now? 

 

How are contracts, licenses, NDA’s, permits, filings, EH&S, etc, managed now?

 

How is work delegated to internal staff, outside council, opposing council, vendors or clients?

 

Is compliance, risk management, contract management part of your responsibility?  If not, who handles that in your organization?  What departments do you interact with the most?

 

How is Matter Management currently handled now?  Who is responsible for keeping up to date on the status of legal projects?

 

How are documents or matters managed between you and your outside council?  How is the corresponding email handled?

 

Do you keep a Docket for Litigation now?  How do you manage who said what and when related to litigation and between you, outside council and others?

 

Do you manage Patent, Trademark, and Copyrights? Are there Property Management responsibilities?  Are there correspondence management needs?

 

Are there tasks/deadlines in the HR department, i.e., employment agreements, reviews, training, benefits, safety, etc, that are manually managed now?
